I figured it was time for another female artist to make her debut on “The Anonymous Artisan.” Lenka is an artist that really has a unique sound. Her song “Don’t Let Me Fall” sounds a bit childish at first listen with the way the music is set with the lyrics, but she has an amazing voice that seems to carry the silly sound. The way she sings the lyrics “don’t let me fall” after the second chorus gave me the chills when I listened to the song at first, which is why I think I like it now. Her album reminds me of a mix between Sarah Bareilles and Imogen Heap, if you can imagine it.
Here’s a little bit of information about the song and the album from Wikipedia:
“”Don’t Let Me Fall” was featured in a television commercial for Telus in Canada. “The Show” has been featured as soundtrack for an Old Navy as well as an Ugly Betty commercial, the film Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, the 2009 Spring Campaign of the Polish TV Station TVN (Poland), and was promoted as an iTunes Free Single of the Week. The songs “Trouble Is a Friend” and “Live Like You’re Dying” were featured in Grey’s Anatomy and “Trouble is a Friend”, “Don’t Let Me Fall”, “The Show”, and “We Will Not Grow Old” were featured in the teen drama 90210.
Lenka has performed on the late-night network television interview shows in America, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and The Tonight Show singing “The Show” with her full band.
On the week of 3 November 2008, “The Show” debuted at number 71 on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart.
The beginning of 2009 saw Lenka tour extensively throughout America and Canada. On February 2nd 2009 Lenka performed her first sold out show in Toronto, Canada which she played a remix version of “The Show” as her encore.
Summer 2009 will see Lenka’s album released in Europe and Asia, with coinciding tours and festival appearances.
In Vietnam, “The Show” was a huge hit and became one of the most played songs in public.
In Poland, due to the huge popularity of “The Show” Lenka’s debut album was certificated gold after 10,000 copies sold.”
I’m assuming that the “don’t let me fall” at the end of each chorus has nothing to do with her not wanting to fall in love. The rest of the song is actually quite romantic, so I’d venture to say she doesn’t want to fall from this cloud nine that she seems to be on with this person. It makes an awful lot of sense to me considering the lyrical arrangement. Let me know if you think differently.
In the meantime, give it a listen and wait for that haunting “don’t let me fall” at 1:42.
She has a truly unique style to her voice. It’s hard to compare her to anyone really, as her voice just stands out on her own really. Her music is really great. The lyrics are really just so perfect.
Hmm – this song is like a Kindergarden version of the Pretenders “I’ll Stand By You” – same riff!!!
